Dr. Oetker Stories
The air is filled with the scent of freshly baked cake; Bistro Baguettes are baking in the air fryer; recipe ideas are laid out on the countertops; and alongside mixing bowls, baking pans, and ingredients, cameras, laptops, and video setups are now part of everyday life here. Welcome to the Dr. Oetker Content Kitchen – a place that is deeply rooted in the brand’s history while constantly evolving.
2.9.2026 • Behind the scenes
The story begins in 1891. With her first baking experiments, Caroline Oetker, together with Dr. August Oetker, laid the foundation for something that continues to define Dr. Oetker to this day: the commitment to ensuring that products and recipes turn out reliably. For more than 130 years, the test kitchen has therefore been a guarantee of quality, guaranteed success, and culinary expertise.
But people’s expectations have changed. Today, inspiration no longer comes solely from cookbooks or packaging, but from websites, apps and social media. Consumers want ideas, guidance and practical support – quickly, relevantly and tailored to their everyday lives. Accordingly, the former test kitchen has evolved into a place where quality, creativity and modern brand communication come together.
Anyone who steps into the approximately 750 square meters of the Content Kitchen in Bielefeld quickly realizes that this is no longer just about testing recipes. Here, people experiment, discuss, take photos, film and above all work to inspire people time and again to bake, cook and enjoy good food. A timer beeps, a cake comes out of the oven, elsewhere, people are discussing the best way to cook in an air fryer, while next door, a video set is already being prepared.
Key figures at a glance:
The ethos of the former test kitchen is still evident today: products and recipes should turn out reliably, be explained clearly and meet Dr. Oetker’s high quality standards. Whether it’s pudding, pizza, cake or savory snacks – the Content Kitchen consistently views products from the perspective of the people who will eventually prepare them. That’s why products and recipes continue to be tested under realistic, everyday conditions – from different types of ovens and preparation methods to alternative ingredients. This results in content that is reliable while also taking into account the diversity of modern eating habits.
But today, the role of the Content Kitchen goes far beyond that. The team of more than 20 employees consistently thinks from the perspective of people’s everyday lives: What questions arise when baking or cooking? What trends are driving consumers? What support is needed to ensure that a recipe not only turns out well but is also enjoyable? These questions give rise to recipes, tips, ideas for use, photos, videos and formats that provide guidance, instill confidence and offer fresh inspiration. The goal is not to dictate how something must be done. Rather, the Content Kitchen sees itself as a partner on equal footing, supporting people with ideas suitable for everyday life, practical tips and reliable assistance.
Whether it’s quick family meals, seasonal highlights, the latest food trends or creative ways to use ingredients: Every year, the Content Kitchen produces up to 500 recipes, tips, photos, and video formats. Always with the goal of meeting people where they are – and making baking, cooking and enjoying food a little easier for them.
To achieve this, the Content Kitchen now works closely with the brand’s digital channels to develop content tailored precisely to the needs of modern users.
However, strong brands aren’t built solely on good content, but also through genuine interactions and direct engagement with the community. That’s why it’s important for Dr. Oetker to actively connect people with the brand and create memorable moments centered around baking, cooking, and enjoying food – both digitally and in person.
The Dr. Oetker Baking Club is increasingly evolving into a modern, active community that brings together people who share the same passion. At the same time, the seminar kitchen in Bielefeld remains a special place for trying things out, learning and enjoying food together. This is where encounters take place that bring the brand to life and go far beyond the product itself.
The Content Kitchen remains – just as the experimental kitchen once did – the heart of the Dr. Oetker brand in Bielefeld. But what began with Caroline Oetker’s first baking experiments is now far more than just the development and testing of recipes and products. A creative space has emerged where ideas take root, content is created and people are brought together. Here, experience and curiosity, craftsmanship and creativity, tradition and modern brand communication come together – creating shared moments of enjoyment.
In this way, the Content Kitchen continues to write the story of the experimental kitchen anew every day – with the same passion that drove Caroline Oetker during her first baking experiments and the commitment to inspire people to bake, cook, and enjoy life tomorrow as well.
