As an internationally active food manufacturer, we are supplied with raw materials, semi-finished products, packaging and services by more than 5,000 suppliers worldwide that meet the high Dr. Oetker quality standards.
And these are only the direct suppliers from whom we purchase flour, milk, salami, chocolate and spices, for example. Behind this is a corresponding number of upstream suppliers, i.e. a significantly larger number of indirect suppliers who make their contribution so that we can manufacture the variety of our products in the proven Dr. Oetker quality.
The supply chains for our products are sometimes very long and can extend through several countries. With around 4,000 products offered worldwide, Dr. Oetker is faced with the complex challenge of coordinating these supply chains. In order to be able to better evaluate the required raw materials in terms of their sustainability performance or possible risks, Dr. Oetker has set itself the goal of making the procurement processes more transparent. We want to create the basis for deriving and implementing specific improvements in individual sustainability issues. In this way, we can simplify our supply chains and work as directly as possible with our partners, or do without certain raw materials entirely and look for more sustainable alternatives.
We already purchase the vast majority of our raw materials at our German production sites from Germany and the EU. As far as possible, we consciously select suppliers who are regionally close to the plants. Some groups of goods with large purchasing volumes, such as flour and sugar, are regularly sourced entirely from regional suppliers in Germany. Purchases on the international market are only made to compensate for peaks in demand.
